if this board and it's posters are any reflection of what laredo hardcore has become i'm pretty bummed. i'm sure there are still a handful of good kids and i know everybody from 'back in the day' still has the same heart.
and i really hate saying this word but it only seems fitting...
all the new jacks seem to be a bunch of fucking faggots.
i hope i get proven wrong when i go back for the five families show.

actually, its not that bad now that I finished going through most of yesterdays threads.
Gnarly Charlie guy takes the role of the dude that thinks he's down because he knows the dirty habits of message board posting without actually taking a role in the "scene" IRL.
then theres a couple of dudes that I have no idea who they are that post on a regular basis...
it beats coming to a dead board.... and I definately prefer it better than the first versions of the board that we had where the majority of the dudes that posted on it were nasty nu-metal kids talking shit anonymously, Adam Puckett sucking his own dick constantly, and us "hardcore" kids disagreeing on the stupidest shit (which I honestly don't remember what there was to complain about back then..)
just to sum up the board from 2000-2002....
oh, then that time that people didn't like my site because it was "biased"... and Jess started the Laredo Emo Scene dot com... hahaha

holy crap. totally forgot about the 'emo' beef with the laredo board. I wish I still remembered the domain for it.
it makes me laugh how much I use to suck, and looking back on it I thought I was sooo cool and listened to the best music. but its like you said alex, we all use to have pretty bad taste.
I'm just glad I have better taste now (though who knows in a couple of years ill think back to now and say 'what was I thinking in '07?!) and try not to worry too much about scene politics (though I do enjoy the occasional elitist beef on the txhc board), laredo hardcore just seems sooo much different now. I wish I was on my computer so I could post that picture after the comeback kid show. nothing for me will ever compare to those times.

I showed up late to it, and saw an enormous crowd of people, a mosh pit, and a couple of stage dives... and it was then that I realized that Laredo's scene was self sustained (somewhat)... and it didn't require the presence of the small group of hardcore kids that were its main supporters from the beginning.

I'm sort of hi-jacking gabes thread now haha.
'I realized that Laredo's scene was self sustained (somewhat)... and it didn't require the presence of the small group of hardcore kids that were its main supporters from the beginning.'
sort of posing a question for whoever wants to answer, but is the fact that the scene is now 'self-sustained' what makes it not seem worth as much? is it because it doesn't seem to take as much effort to sustain the scene that people take it for granted?
I remember when people would actually flyer shows. people use to actually work their ass off to book and promote these shows and we use to not take it for granted. now with a simple myspace bulletin the word is put out. thanks to things like photoshop it takes 5 min to make flyer instead of the ol' cutting out, handwritten, photocopied flyers.
and even then our generation of hardcore(or mine at least) isn't even that old and I see that a lot of us are jaded and its a shame because a lot of us haven't even broken 23 yet (hell I'm 19) and a part of me is hopeless to the future of hardcore.
sorry if this didn't make sence. its hard to stay on track when it takes forever to type something out on a cell phone.

The dudes that go to shows today have no heart, they dont like touring bands just the over hyped ones it really sucks that the kids dont even bother to check out a touring band new to laredo, or even a band that has been here a bunch of times like die young the last time they came it was lame twenty people at best, I dont know I still go and kick it at shows and stuff but I really really hope that these kids will wise up and support more touring bands...........
FUCK!

FUCK! Agreed. The All In show was a perfect example, I hadn't heard 'em until they played...such an amazing band...turnout, as most shows lately, sucked. As for this board... I think there's a lot of overposting by these kids...most of it pointless bull-shit. I have found a few threads of interest lately, like this one. I dunno, those were my thoughts.

I was just thinking last night. How much has changed, how certain kids have started rolling the ball that ruined the scene. Over saturating the scene with horrible shows, Ah! I don't book as much anymore. And for a reason. Example... DEAD CITY! www.myspace.com/deadcity SICK BAND! Where was the scene!? The true kids, the ones who love hxc were there. All the rest of the fly by nights were wishing it was on the north side. its a cycle, it happens every year.

I wouldn't blame it much on the expansion or growth it did in Laredo... just hardcore in general. its a mainstream genre now, and of course it draws a wider audience, most of which have no idea what hardcore is about, but its being played on TV and in big concerts, so it must be "cool". just head to YouTube and search anything pertaining to Hardcore... its a fucking piss off to watch how so many kids are involved in it. as for Laredo... well its just like any other scene thriving on the Mainstream.... except kids here DONT KNOW SHIT! not even about the current shit! I don't blame a lot of kids for not jamming Outspoken, or Verbal Assault... but for a current band like DOWN TO NOTHING, HAVE HEART, or VERSE to come down, and just a hand full of kids actually get excited... well theres something definitely wrong there.

what about the streets of laredo website or the "learn how to hxc dance" flyers, hahaha
anyway, back on topic. i feel like i've drifted from hardcore a little. mostly because nancy and i have been moving and working so much that we barely make time to go to local shows anymore. yeah we read the msg brds and look up current hxc bands, but its' not the same. we don't hang out with our friends as much as we used to and in this new city, it's hard to make time to hang out when we're both working 10+ hour shifts. i don't know anything about the way laredo hxc is now, and i don't want to make assumptions about anyone, but i think these new kids are missing a little of the heart that laredo had when it was first getting started. maybe it's because they don't have to work for the scene to get better, because "it's" already there, or maybe they're afraid. i don't know. whatever it is, that shit happens everywhere. it's been said already, it's a cycle of highs and lows. whatever's been broken will be built back again.
